Science with cubesats

Start Date
End Date
A RAS Specialist Discussion Meeting organised by *Helen Walker (STFC/RAL); Andrew Holland (Open); Ross Burgon (Open)Venue: Royal Astronomical Society Lecture Theatre*Contact: helen.walker@stfc.ac.ukPlease note the meeting is a week earlier than usual due to Good Friday bank holiday, and has earlier start and finish times. The CubeSat has come a long way from the initial 10cm x 10cm x 10cm cube used as an educational experiment, and the initial technology demonstrator CubeSats. The aim of this meeting is to explore the potential of the CubeSat (and other small satellites) as a credible platform to support serious science investigations in the areas of astronomy, geophysics, space science and the planetary sciences. The meeting will cover a wide range of topics from lessons learned to distant dreams, from the local ionosphere, magnetosphere and space weather, through astrobiology and asteroids, out to the study of exoplanets and gamma ray bursts. For more information about the programme (and to register so we can track on how many people plan to attend), see the Eventbrite page athttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/science-with-cubesats-ras-specialist-dis…;09:30 - 10:00 Registration, plus coffee and poster setup in RAS Council Room 10:00 – 10:30 Roger Walker (ESA)Science with CubeSats: an ESA perspective 10:30 – 10:45 David Cullen (Cranfield University)
