It was a pleasure to meet and chat to so many RAS Fellows while at the 231st AAS meeting in Washington. With a lot of help from Adam Leary and Sarah McKenna of the Society's publishers, Oxford University Press, and the ever-efficient AAS organization, we entertained 40 fellows to drinks and canapes, but most of all to conversation and meeting fellow Fellows from across the US – and Canada! Prof. John Zarnecki, RAS President, made a short speech of welcome, recognising the similarities between the AAS and the RAS, as two societies with similar values and a certain amount of shared history and tradition. He also invited Fellows to come and say hello when in the UK, especially if visiting during our bicentenary year, 2020.
As Editor of the Fellows' magazine, I took the opportunity to encourage those present to write for both A&G and for this website; the RAS is made up of its Fellows and we don't, generally, hear enough about the activities and interests of Fellows living outside the UK. It was a very welcome change to hear all about so many different areas of research, outreach and education activities from the Fellows who joined us. I hope that, in future, they and any other fellows will get in touch and post news and things of interest to fellows here on A&G Forum.
