The 2018 RAS Medals and Prizes will be announced in January next year and recipients will be presented with their awards later in the year. There are awards for lifetime achievement, and for early career researchers, for service to science and to groups. Outreach and education are recognised through the Patrick Moore Medal for teaching and the Annie Maunder Medal for Outreach. Excellent speakers can be nominated for the Society's Named Lectures; distinguished scientists based overseas may be awarded an Honorary Fellowship.
You don't need to be a Fellow in order to nominate someone, and they don't need to be a Fellow either. But it is worth checking on the RAS website to make sure that you are making the nomination in line with the rules and regulations, and that, for example, the person nominated matches the criteria for a particular award. Please keep your nomination confidential as far as possible; in particular, don't tell the person you nominate that you have done so.
The deadline for nominations is 31 July 2017 for all awards except the Patrick Moore Medal and the Annie Maunder Medal for Outreach, which have a 30 September 2017 deadline.
